Laser Hair Removal
For many men and women, unwanted hair can be an embarrassing nightmare. Traditional hair reduction techniques such as shaving, plucking and waxing provide only temporary relief. Electrolysis can be effective, but often requires years of painful treatments. Many people are now seeking laser treatment for the safe and effective reduction of unwanted hair.
Hair experiences three phases of growth: anagen, telogen and catagen. The goal in hair reduction is for the laser light energy to penetrate to the depth of the hair follicle during the anagen phase (growth phase). Since all hair follicles are not in the growth phase at the same time, from 3 - 6 treatments are required to achieve long term results.
Laser light energy is absorbed by the melanin pigment in the hair and transformed into heat energy disabling the hair follicle. Those with course, dark hair, and light colored skin respond best to the laser. In those with darker skin, (more melanin) the skin competes with the hair for the light energy - which may result in damage to the skin, not the hair follicle. (This is why tanning should be avoided prior to treatment). Skin types are classified into 6 categories, each reacts differently to sunlight. Individual skin types are determined to establish safe and effective laser energy levels prior to treatment.
